Re: no air filter
Anything involving pneumatic control requires clean air.
Dirt can block valve holes and contaminate control surfaces.
If removing the filter gives noticeable power increase, then
you long ago needed a new air filter. Problem was not the
filter.

BTW, look at the bottom of the filter not the top, and what will damage the
engine is things you cannot see. You will score the cylinder walls, and the
engine will eventually give up, but hey, it's your car, I say GO FOR IT, as
mechanics don't make a lot and they need people like you to stay in
business.

How come? My air filter is connected straight to the fuel injection system,
no where near the engine. Wouldn't it just dirty my feul injectors and I can
have those cleaned once in a while?

Re: no air filter
I completely agree. Mechanics do not make nearly enough money, so it's
our duty to line their pockets.
