Looking for recommendation for All-Season tires for 2000 Honda Prelude
Hi, I'm looking for replacing the stock Potenza RE92 with another set
of all-season tires (probably performance or ultra performance
series). Here's some backgrounds:
1. I live in Toronto, Ontario (i.e. ocassional heavy snow during the
winter).
2. I won't buy snow tires. (i.e. only one set of tires)
3. I'm not too demanding on the tire performance on snow, AS LONG AS
IT'S NOT WORSE THAN THE STOCK POTENZA RE92.
Basically, I'm thinking about Pirelli P7000 or Toyo FZ4, and would
like to get some comments about the snow performance comparing the
stock ones. (Also, if you think there're better tires in this
category with a reasonable price, please let me know too.)
Also, for those of you who lives in Toronto area, what do you think is
a fair price?
Thanks... Steve

The P7000 seems to be the favorite in the category at www.tirerack.com -
snow performance is not rated that great but better than the RE92s. Then
again the RE92 is one of the most hated tires on the market... for any
purpose.:-) I dunno about the Proxes-FZ4s - not sold by Tirerack so not
rated. There has been mixed opinions here on them but I was turned off
them recently since I found one site which says they are being
discontinued.
Worth a look would be the BFGoodrich Traction T/A V - apparently too new to
have a survey response at Tirerack but the comments are positive about snow
use, though dry cornering is obviously compromised; looks like it might be
a noisy tread design in later life too. Pity the Dunlop SP5000 is not
available in any suitable size which fits your reqts.

After you decide which tires to buy--I noticed that at least one other
intelligent poster gave you some great advice on brads--I can provide some
advice on how to save money. For the next couple of weeks, buy a copy of
the local newspaper or the newspaper of the largest city near your home.
Check for ads from any stores that sell tires. If you see the brand of
tires that you want--buy them from the tire store that has the best sale
price. I was able to use this approach to get four tires for the price of
three tires from a local tire store. Also--visit your Sears store about
once a week and get a copy of their tire sales information. The local
Sears store rarely ever publishes in the newspaper info. about their tire
sales.

The local
Sears store rarely ever publishes in the newspaper info. about their tire
sales.

Re: Looking for recommendation for All-Season tires for 2000 Honda Prelude
George/Tom,
Thank you to both of you!!! Your advices are definitely very
helpful!!! I guess I'll choose between P7000 and Traction T/A, and
hopefully I can get a good price.
As a side question for P7000, I found there're two versions of P7000
on Pirelli's web site:
P7000 (Summer Ultra High Performance)
P7000 SUPERSPORT (ALL-SEASON Ultra High Performance)
Can I tell the difference (from the appearence or label info) between
the two? I want to get the all-season version, and I don't want to
accidentally pick the other one.
Thanks again... Steve

Hmmm, I don't see a P7000 Summer tire anywhere but just make sure you
specify the *SuperSport*. Pirelli has used similar nomenclature for other
tires, e.g the P6000 Summer and the P6000 Sport Veloce All Season.
