Re: HELP My Parked Car Was Hit - Insurance Not Making Sense - No Fault
A slightly related "collision coverage" story:
My two school teacher friends owned a mobile home they lived in for a
couple years, until...
A drunk leaves the highway, drives a half mile up their dirt road driveway
and crashes into it.
Even though the mobile home was not mobile, no wheels, on blocks and tied
down...
Their homeowners insurance would not pay since it did not cover collision.

Huh? Have you not read any other posts here from people with *experience*?
It may vary by insurance company, state or even country -- this *is* an
international newsgroup -- but I know that in NJ, when a car hits another
car which is stationary, parked in the street or a parking lot, it is
classed as collision.
Oh and BTW, collision coverage is to cover any damage you do to anyone or
anything - not just *your* car.

Not true. I don't have collision on my car and if I hit someone my
liability coverage will cover the damage my car causes to someone elses
property. It just won't cover damage to my car.

George, I think your last sentence is correct; collision insurance *is*
to cover any damage *you* (or your car) does to anyone or anything, not
just your car.
In the case at hand, neither the OP nor his car did any damage
whatsoever, and collision insurance (on *his* part) should not enter
into the equation. While the incident is (generally) classed as a
collision, the coverage purchased by the OP is irrelevant - or should be.
He *will* probably have to sue the bastards in car #1 and car #2, and
the owner of car #2, and each of their respective applicable insurance
companies, unfortunately. But he stands a good chance of winning a
reasonable settlement - although that may take some time.

Re: HELP My Parked Car Was Hit - Insurance Not Making Sense - NoFault
By the way, when I have been hit by a driver who had Progressive Insurance
Co, they rushed out to my house, checked the damage, gave me a check, then,
when the body shop indicated that there was some hidden damage too, they
sent another check. They were GREAT! I would have switched, but I have
both home and car with another company and Progressive doesn't (didn't) do
homeowners.

Co, they rushed out to my house, checked the damage, gave me a check, then,
when the body shop indicated that there was some hidden damage too, they
sent another check. They were GREAT! I would have switched, but I have
both home and car with another company and Progressive doesn't (didn't) do
homeowners.

I have had similar experience with Progressive, and I insure my car and
motorcycle with them. I could have saved a couple dollars using Bike-line.com
for motorcycle insurance, but my good experience with Progressive was worth more
than that. I used to have State Farm and after many years of high premiums I
had a claim - and that was a crappy experience. They really sucked.
