Civic Issue
I have a 2001 civic and when I start driving in the morning I hear Metal
sounding Ca-Chunk, It happens after about 1000 ft or so. Also I notice
when I am driving less than 10 MPH and idol forward I can hear a repeated
Metal sounding Thump. Just wondering if anyone may know what this may be
before I take it in for service and get hosed since I have no idea what it
is. Is almost sounds like when you run over a rock and it comes up and hits
the underside of the car.
Thanks.

Does it mention in your Owner's Manual that the ABS system will make a
noise when your vehicle first starts out in the morning?
You might want to get out your tire iron and check all lug nuts too,
seriously :-)

Re: Civic Issue
I had a similar problem with my 2002 Civic. It was a loose engine mount
bolt located on the bottom of the engine just behind the radiator. I
tightened the bolt and the problem was resolved.

Tim, 'Curly' isn't pulling your leg. It probably isn't the lugs, but if it
*is* don't expect any clearer warning before your wheel comes off while
you're going down the road. Checking them is quick, cheap and easy. Your
choice.
Several years ago I left work to find the drive blocked by a Caddy. The
guard said the driver was making a U-turn and the front wheel collapsed -
broken ball joint. The guard had asked her if the car had been shaking and
shimmying when crossing railroad tracks, and she answered, "Yeah! Just like
that!"
