Acura Warranties + Dealer Coverage - NEED HELP ASAP !
Hello All,
I need some more sound advice. I bought the car 2 years ago as an
Acura PreCertified Vehicle. My car just turned 76K and my temperature
control guage (blue/red strip) has just locked up. I cannot slide the
temperature **** left or right for the air, it's just stuck in the
middle. It's seriosuly stuck, not sticking or catching at all. I was
going to have the dealer take a look and have it replaced. This would
be covered for free correct ?
Also, my antenna has started making a clunking sound when it goes up
and down. The Antennna is not bent, it sounds like the antenna motor
is grinding.
And finally, it sounds like one of the fans on the inside is about to
go. It's making a squeaking sound whenever air is blowing through the
vent on the passenger side.
I would assume these repairs and parts would be covered for FREE since
they are non wear and tear items and things beyond my control for
maintaining and really couldn't have messed up on my own. By the way,
my car is stock and I keep the interior in GREAT condition, any actual
Acura Technicians that work in a dealership I could really use your
help on this one ! Thank you all for your help !

If yours was the bumper to bumper extended warranty from Acura, yes.
If it was powertrain-only extended warranty from Acura, no. If the
dealer sold you on a "certified" vehicle that was certified in name
only, or had a third party extended warranty instead of an Acura-brand
warranty, maybe and maybe not.
The extended warranty is a product--nothing more, nothing less. I know
for Honda certified used cars, the basic level of "certified" involves
two things: (a) a one year bumper to bumper warranty or, if the car is
still within the factory 3 yr/36K miles warranty, extending that to 4
yr/48K miles; and (b) the HondaCare powertrain extended warranty to 7
yr/100K miles.
The car was advertised as "certified used", but really they're simply
saying "this car is eligible for you to buy the HondaCare extended
warranty for it". In other words, at the time of purchase I had the
option of *not* buying the extended powertrain warranty (basic level)
and saving $400. I also had the option of adding on the bumper to
bumper extended warranty, for an extra $900. (That dealer was smoking
crack. I declined.) It's just a product they sell, and "certified
used" means the car is eligible for that product.
I don't know what the basic level of warranty is for Acura certified
used cars. But I do know this: when I took the extended warranty, it
comes complete with a contract and documentation that spells it out
quite clearly.
In addition, the fact that my VIN is under this extended HondaCare
warranty is logged in Honda's computers. I can go anywhere to any Honda
repair facility and they can look it up and see.
So, instead of coming here and getting all sorts of idiot answers about
"yes it is" or "no it's not", why don't you get out your paperwork and
READ it? We aren't clairvoyant; we can't read your mind, or the mind of
the salesman who sold it to you, or the paperwork itself.
You could also (GASP!) call any Acura dealer and ask. And if they say
"no, it's not covered" you can ask them to point out to you just WHERE
in your contract it spells that out. If they can't, then it must be
covered.

If I am not mistaken the certified cars come with a 7 year 100,000 mile
POWERTRAIN warranty and as such these items most likely would not be covered
considering they are not powertrain items. If there is an additional
warranty that came with the car then you may have a shot.

Could as well be the motors but have you tried greasing/oiling it up?
Especially where the antenna protrudes from the metal and the middle of the
fan there should be a place where you can grease it up.
As far as warranty goes, you got a good reply so I won't repeat what was
said already.

Especially where the antenna protrudes from the metal and the middle of the
fan there should be a place where you can grease it up.
As far as warranty goes, you got a good reply so I won't repeat what was
said already.

Could as well be the motors but have you tried greasing/oiling it up?

Yeah I agree; I think it is a powertrain warranty. I had to have a
cable replaced because my temp control froze on a '90 Integra. That
was at 6 or 7 years old and it cost something like $100. Probably not
something you want to do yourself because you may screw up the dash's
appearance by trying to disassemble it....
