Accord 91 EX does not start.
Hi group
I have 91 EX accord Automatic tranny ,car for over a year.
There has been no problem with this car except once I had to change the main
relay, which we know is a common problem in Hondas.
Today my car was working fine till the afternoon and I parked it and when
came back after 10 mins or so, it wont start. I think the battery is fine, I
am not able to figure out the problem. Could be the main relay again ?
BTW, today I gone to get smog check done, the car passed the test. Could
there have been anything gone wrong after the test that could have caused
the car to be dead.?
Please help.
TIA
HNB.

Re: Accord 91 EX does not start.
You should provide more details on how your car behaves when you try to
start it.
Mine (90 Accord EX) didn't start out of the blue altough the starter was
working and problem
showed up to be the distributor. Two weeks after changing it it did it again
but this time
the problem was a lose connector. These are old cars and it is pretty hard to
zoom in on a problem just by saying the car won't start no more....cause
like everything old
it start to break down in more than one place.

it probably does click. I am not too sure how to recognize if the fuel pump
runs or not, cause when I put the key in position two, it does feel as if
the engine is about to start but does'nt.
when i had tried a couple of times yesterday the engine just came on for a
second and the whole car vibrated for and the then dead again.
Somebody today mailed me and told me it could be the distributor as 90's
models had this problem too ?
Is there anyway I can check if the fuel pump is working or not .....?
Thank you 'Curly' and 'STS' for the input.

Re: Accord 91 EX does not start.
Put someone to turn the ignition and you try to hear a humming noise at the
back of the car.
If you hear that then the pump is ok if not you might have to change it
or to see a doctor about your hearing (I had to do that cuz I couldn't hear
squat altough the
fuel pump was ok.)
If you're handy with cars then you should buy a distributor out of Ebay and
put it on yourself
if not , and you can wait then buy one from Ebay and go to a mechanic to
install it.
I'm in Canada and the shipping would kill the deal so I paid $400 (canadian
$$) and $100
instalation and everyhting is fine now at least on that part .
Good luck
back of the car.

Re: Accord 91 EX does not start.
It could be fuel or possibly the distributor going/gone bad. My '91
Accord DX distributor failed at about 95,000 miles. It ran very rough
and stalled at low RPM's. The check engine light came on, checking
the codes it said two sensors inside the distributor were bad. I
opened the distributor cap and found a some oil and filings. I
replace it with a used distributor from Ebay ($51 and another $20 for
shipping). It runs great now.
Hope this helps.

Hi folks
based on what you guys asked me to check, the fuel pump seems ok .......I
asked a mechanic to check for me and he told me it could be the distributor
or the timing belt, he did not have much time yesterday so will look today
and let me know which of the two is not working.
I think the starter is working cause I see the pulleys besides the engine
rotate for a second. So I guess it mite be the timing belt, could it be ?
I will post my findings, thanks a lot everybody for the valuable help.

based on what you guys asked me to check, the fuel pump seems ok .......I
asked a mechanic to check for me and he told me it could be the distributor
or the timing belt, he did not have much time yesterday so will look today
and let me know which of the two is not working.
I think the starter is working cause I see the pulleys besides the engine
rotate for a second. So I guess it mite be the timing belt, could it be ?
I will post my findings, thanks a lot everybody for the valuable help.

Re: Accord 91 EX does not start. --FINALLY !!
Hi group,
finally I got the car fixed. It was the distributor coil that was not
working, also replaced the cap cause it seemed little loose on the rotor.
and also replaced the rotor. Total cost $116 from Autozone.
Now, the car starts up the smooth.
Next thing I need to do is replace the timing belt and water pump, which are
due.
thanks a lot group for tips and suggestions.
