Accord
I am driving a Honda Accord 2003. During the summer my brakes did not feel
right. The pedal would drop too low and feel soft. It would catch better if
I pushed on the pedal a second time. I took the car in and was told I need a
new master brake cylinder. I now was driving the car last week and the same
problem happened again. I took the car back to the dealer where they gave me
a loaner to drive. I was told there is a brake computer module that needed
to be replaced. This was last Thursday. The part is back ordered and I hope
to get my Accord back tomorrow. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is it
possible for a computer part to cause such a problem? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Mine started shaking when braking. Took it in, they told me the rotor
was warped and the pads needed replacing. I only have 30,000 kms on
this car. (2003 Accord Sedan 2.4l stick) They weren't going to cover
it under warranty. I bitched and fired an email off to Honda with
links to other people complaining about the same thing. Some as quick
as 5000 kms!
They then covered it under warranty.

Jody, would it be too much trouble for you to provide me with some of
those links? My car (2003 Accord LX Auto) is doing much the same.
Thanks.

#5433 of 5686 Brake Problems!!!! 2003 Honda Accord EX/V6 by jambriz
Jul 22, 2003 (7:57 am)
Hello, I've been having brake problems with my car since I had 8k
miles. Every time I hit the brake, my brake peddle starts to vibrate.
I finally had a chance to take the car back into my local Honda Dealer
and have the brakes checked. They replaced my front brake pads and
machined the rotors and "told me it was only a one time deal". They
told me that I was "riding" my brakes and this would not be under
warranty the next time it happens. I never ride my brakes, I paid 27k
for this car, I baby it!! Well here it is a few months latter and same
brake problem, I feel that this is a bigger problem then Honda would
like to admit. Does anyone have any more information about this?
Please let me know. jambriz@***.net
http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_38069.html
4th Aug 2003, 00:09 I bought my 2003 Honda Accord LX V6 last December
2002.
The car has been pulling to the right ever since. After driving
approximately
500 miles, I had it looked at. The alignment was perfect, so they
switch the
two front tires and the problem seemed to have disappeared. I took the
mechanics for a test drive, but he was unable to explain the problem.
I was
given all sorts of reasons why cars pull to the right. It was the way
the
roads were constructed or because it was too windy. I have been
driving for
over 15 years and cars don't pull like my Honda does. I went to a
dealer an
test drove the same model. The result was the same: the car pulls to
the
right.
I had problems with the electric seat advancing one notch forward when
braking. Honda will replace the seat as soon as they get one in the
shop.
The brake disks do not seem to be able to withstand the heat caused by
braking. I had to be turn the disks after 3,000 miles. The shop turned
them
last week at 9,500 miles.
I tend to brake with moderate force and I live in Phoenix, but still,
I bought
a Honda.
22nd Aug 2003, 09:55 I have had my 2003 Honda accord five months. The
motor
makes a loud ticking noise, there is popping sounds coming from the
rear,
middle and front. I have already had to have to rotors turned at
10,000 miles,
and they have new carpet on order for me know. The carpet was pulling
away
from the sides. I have took the car to the shop and the techs do not
hear the
motor or the popping sounds and they are driving me crazy. I still
have my
1995 Honda Accord with 180,000 miles and it has never gave me any
trouble at
all.

#5625 of 5686 Recurring brake problems by hmurphy Aug 23, 2003
(10:18 pm)
Like some others on this board, I'm having early brake problems with
my 2003
EX-V6. About two weeks after I bought it, the brakes developed a loud
grinding
noise, which the dealer was unable to fix. After bringing Honda
Customer
Service into the equation, the dealer replaced the pads and resurfaced
the
rotors.
Now, at about 6000 miles, the brakes are beginning to shudder when
applied at
speeds over 65 mph or so. I will have to confirm the problem with the
dealer,
but it appears that the rotors are at fault. I may have to reacquaint
myself
with my representative at Honda Customer Service.
Other than that, the only other problems are the rattles mentioned
elsewhere,
very hot key, and out-of-whack thermometer. I can live with all of
those, but
not with perpetually failing rotors.
I noticed several complaints on the NHTSA site for malfunctioning or
nonfunctioning airbags. That's pretty scary. Here's hoping mine are
never
tested.
The car is very fun to drive, and passengers love it, too. I hope that
Honda
can resolve these issues in the near future, before the ownership
experience
is soured.

My VIN# falls under the first sequence you listed in post #5612. I
have had my
2003 Accord LX 4 door in three times now for this and they just keep
telling
me they can't duplicate the problem. I heard it as early as 3,000
miles. At 8
,000 miles I was able to duplicate the noise for the service manager.
When I
picked the car up they said that they replaced my strut collars. I did
not
hear the noise for a while, but now it back among other noises that
make my
stomach turn. The noise I hear from the back end is a grumbling noise,
that is
the easiest way that I can describe it. I hear it when I am slowly
backing out
of my garage or a parking space. Basically, when ever I am rolling
with my
foot off both the gas and brake at slow speed. I never hear it when
driving at
regular speeds, only when very slowly rolling. Also, when ever I start
the
car, with my foot fully depressed on the brake pedal, when I put the
car in
reverse there is a grinding noise from the back end. I do not
understand this,
as my foot is completely holding the brake pedal dowm. What is this
noise? And
most recently, I am noticing a clunking noise when I turn the steering
wheel
while backing out or rolling forward (slowly as well). It's that
horrible
clunk I always hear in American cars (sorry, I always hear this
unacceptable
clunk in American cars, this is my frist time ever hearing it in a
Honda). I
am so unhappy and worried that I bought a lemon. They replaced my
front brakes
as soon as 3,000 miles, that concerns me as once again because they
are making
a grinding noise, not constantly, but enough that I am worried about
this as
well. As long as I am driving, the car seems perfect (outside of
creaking
around the windows), but I just want earplugs for when I go to put the
car in
reverse or drive, and when I am backing out or slowing rolling through
a
parking lot. I am going to print out what you wrote in #5612 and bring
it in
to my service center. I really hope they can fix this and the other
items at
some point, I am at 17K miles now and I am sick thinking I might have
bought a
lemon. Can you make me feel any better about these issues I am having?
Do they
sound familiar? Can you expalin the loose dampner and what damage it
could be
causing from being loose? If they tightened it and didn't tell me at
3,000
miles, could it loosen again? They said they replaced the strut
collars, and I
did notice that the noise went away for a while, but it's back again.
I am
wondering if they really did replace the strut collars? Wouldn't they
know
that my car is one of the cars that falls with in these VIN's you
listed? I
would very much apprecaiate anything you can tell me to help me out
with my
next visit to the service center. Thank you.

Aug

Bought an LX 5spd (made in Japan) 3 days ago, 400 miles so far. Here's
a list
of problems:
1. Center console door broken.
2. Buzzes from driver's window.
3. Pulling to the right.
4. Engine's noisy between 2000rpm to 3000rpm during accelation.
Vibration
coming from gas padel and steering wheel for the same RPM range. Not
sure if
this is normal or not. Does anyone know?
I test drove another LX 5spd (Made in Ohio) before I bought this one.
Didn't
really like how the brake was modulated on that one. Even the
slightest press
on the panel will make the brake grab.
Still like the car, smooth manual shift, very little friction along
the
drivetrain. It seems to take little to get the car moving.
Guess JD Power wasn't really out of their minds when giving 03 Accord
the
lowest rating on initial quality. Still hoping for the long-term
reliability
that Honda was known for.

The latest J.D. Powers survey rated Honda #9 of the 37 brands surveyed
(with
2.18 problems per vehicle), NOT "the lowest" as you stated.
The results ranged from 1.67 problems for Lexus to 5.09 for KIA, with
the
industry average being 2.73.
The study is based on responses from more than 55,000 original owners
of 2000
model-year cars and light trucks. They did NOT rate the 2003 Accord,
nor ANY
model-year 2001 through 2003 cars made by ANY manufacturer.
Your dealer should easily address your problems #1 & 2. Your problem
#3 may
just be improper tire inflation. Check it with a good gauge. Your
"problem" #4
seems to be a normal sound and vibration level for any four cylinder
vehicle
under hard acceleration.

I still
have my
1995 Honda Accord with 180,000 miles and it has never gave me any
trouble at
all.

#5561 of 5686 They don't build them like they used to by calvinywang
Aug
13, 2003 (5:31 pm)

I still
have my
1995 Honda Accord with 180,000 miles and it has never gave me any
trouble at
all.

Thank you.

Thank you.

#5561 of 5686 They don't build them like they used to by calvinywang
