abs fault
Hi guys. My wife has a Honda accord which is causing me a headache.
The abs light comes on after driving for about 1 mile. So I took it to
the Honda dealer for them to check it out. I was told "it`s the
nearside rear road wheel sensor ! (I also have a Honda accord )
I replaced the sensor with one from a donor car., again after driving
about a mile the abs light came on ?? I then decided that because the
abs on my car is working fine I removed the sensor off my car and
fitted it to my wife`s car . you would think that will solve the
problem. WRONG the light cam on aftre driving about 1 mile. Any
suggestions welcome. Thanks

Try cleaning the toothed wheel that the sensor reads. You also might
have a fault in the wiring or connectors between the sensor and the ABS
controller, or a fault in the ABS controller itself. I've repaired
several Volvo 850 ABS controllers that had cracked solder joints in
them, it causes intermittent failures at first which tend to then happen
more and more often with time; no reason that couldn't happen other
cars. A sensor fault just tells you that the controller cannot read the
sensor, it doesn't mean the problem is with the sensor itself.

Assuming that the dealer actually read out the trouble code from the
ABS unit to make this diagnosis (& as the other poster noted, the ring
is not crudded up), try checking out the wiring from the controller to
the wheel sensor. Its a pretty hostile environment down there by the
wheel & the wiring on a '93 is going to be less then factory fresh by
now.
