99 accord annoying little problems, questions
Lessee how many I can remember-
1. Clock is dark, even with fresh bulb. Dealer says 'new clock, 36 bucks'.
Anybody know a cheap fix? (and where else other than stealership can I find
those bulbs?)
2. RF door electric lock doesn't trip from LF door or inside of RF door, but
does work from turning key in either door. So solenoid is good? Any idea
what failure point may be?
3. Gave it the fall wash'n' wax the other day, and when I opened trunk to
wax those edges, water poured out of RH edge of trunk lid behind tailight.
Is it likely just loose, or is there a failed seal I need to RTV or
something?
4. I probably ought to buy decent tires for this thing, to replace the
Wally World generics before winter. Any recommendations on the best
non-exotic brand that does okay in winter and summer. Yes, I know from
Blizzak, etc, but have no place to store a second set of tires. Also, any
cheap places to buy a vanilla steel rim, so I can go to a full-size spare?
(I detest those cookie spares.)
5. Any place actually have the ashtray kits in stock? The tin can in
cupholder is getting old.
Overall, other than the faults above, and bumping my head when I get in and
out, I love the car. Handles great, 30-32 mpg on highway, and even with the
AT (couldn't find a stick), the little 4cyl has okay power. No drag racer,
but does highway speed all day just fine. (The v-6s were all <several> grand
more, plus they all had sunroof, which means <I> don't fit in the car.)
Replies via e-mail also, please- my newsfeed is unreliable.

I don't believe there is an after market clock that will fit in the same
slot. I don't know whether the clock light is connected to the little ****
that you can turn to adjust the brightness of the instrument lights. Try
turning the **** to see if the clock light gets brighter. If that does not
work--try installing a different new bulb since you may have gotten a bad
bulb or the wrong type of bulb. You might try a different dealership since
the dealership where you got the defective bulb might just sell you
another defective bulb or wrong type of bulb. I can't help you with the
other problems. You might try

I have an 01 Accord 2dr and it does this as well. I don't think the water
is in the light, but around it in the crack between the end of the seal and
the outer edge of the lens.
As for tires, I'm told that Bridgestone and Dunlop work well. The bottom
line is to stay away from something like cheap Walmart Douglas tires or
similar cheap tires.
This car does not use overly large tires (unless you changed the rims)
so it should not be that expencive to go with a top grade of tire.
