When I first open the passenger's window of my 1998 Honda Civic EX (standard
power window) it makes a loud "boom" sound, enough to scare me and the
others in the car! The driver's side window is fine. What could cause that
sound? Is it possible that the window rolls-up too tightly? Are there
settings for this?

If I roll the window back up and then back down again while on the same
trip, it doesn't make the noise.

Anybody ever heard of this?

It could just be the top of the glass sticking in the top of the glass
run. Get yourself a small tube of Sil-Glyde (which is a grease made for
rubber contact), put a small dab on a cloth wrapped around your finger,
and then just run that clothed finger over the part of the glass run
where the glass tucks up inside when the window is closed. Wipe a couple
of times so as to leave a thin veneer of it on the rubber, and then try
that and see if it cures the problem. Don't use silicone spray as it
kills rubber and attracts water. Usually you get glass stickages like
that in cold or frosty weather.....same as when your doors stick shut
after a heavy frost.
