In which case, his instructions were bollocks
You have to remove the leccy window switches first. Then take off gearnob,
and remove entire centre console (one screw is under the leccy window
switches).
Once that is out of the way, the centre bit holding the stereo(s) can be
removed.

In which case, his instructions were bollocks
