94 Honda Accord - shaking a lot!
We're on our third mechanic right now trying to figure out why our 94
Honda Accord EX (manual, 110,000 miles) is shaking. Here is the letter
I left with the mechanic, if anyone has experienced this before,
please let me know!
The Honda has been shaking for the past couple of weeks.
First, We replaced the spark plugs and wires ourselves and it didn't
fix the problem.
Second, We took it to our mechanic and he was unable to diagnose the
problem but referred us to a transmission specialist because he
thought it might be in the pinch plate in the clutch. The clutch was
replaced 1.5 years ago.
We then took it to the transmission specialist and his best guess was
either:
- a problem with the engine mount
- one or two of the front axles, but he was unable to tell if the axle
was damaged and told us that it would be more cost effective to put
two new axles on as opposed to the labor it would cost just to
diagnose the issue. We weren't willing to go with this option because
we didn't want to pay $300 dollars to have something done that may or
may not fix the issue.
I spoke to a neighbor who referred me to you.
Here's what I can tell you:
- The shaking usually begins after I've been driving it for over a
mile.
- The shaking comes and goes, with minor or major intensity. But it
will throb continuously 8 to 10 times before it snaps back out of it
(or i take my foot off the gas).
- The shaking will go away if I take my foot off the gas.
Any thoughts? The third mechanic just called us back and he is
clueless as well. He's going to talk to some of his Honda mechanic
friends and call us back.
