94 del sol burned ecu
I recently had my timing belt replaced at 85k miles in my 94 del sol Si
at a large honda dealership. They also checked out an airbag light
that had turned on about two months prior. Three days later, it shuts
off after shifting to fourth gear and will not start back up. A return
trip to the mechanic reveals a damaged ecu (capacitor is burned off of
the board to the extent that the board is damaged on the underside.)
Dealership claims no responsibilty and offers to repair it for $1100
and no warranty. They also indicated that a relay was also damaged.
$1100 repair with no warranty is garbage.
I can get a used ecu myself for $175. The problem is that the old one
looks like it took a pretty good surge and I am afraid that a
replacement would also burn up if there is another fault in the system
I have not corrected. Any ideas on what to check?

Based upon what you wrote, the ecu should be the first thing that you
should replace. Visit the parts department at the dealership and ask how
much a new ecu will cost you. If you install it yourself, you should be
able to save some money. Repost after you have installed it to let us know
if your problem is solved or what other problems remain unsolved.

Re: 94 del sol burned ecu
Replaced the ECU with a used one. Replaced the main relay (pretty sure
it was bad). Everything is kosher now. I will repost if I have any
further problems. Thanks for the advice.
