90 civic wipers
Hello All, I have a problem with the wipers on my civic. The damm things
come on when u start the car and do a few cycles and will not shut off. I
have replaced the switch on the steering column. They still do it. Any ideas
on a relay or something else that would be making it do this. Thanks

there's a continuation switch in the motor that normally keeps the
wipers running until they reach the "park" position. that would appear
to be stuck "on". replace the wiper motor, or if more mechanically
inclined, remove the cover from the motor's gear box & test the
microswitch in there. contacts are probably welded shut. you can
disconnect it, but then you have to park the wipers manually each time.

Jim,
I wrote a reply almost identical to yours, but scrapped it. If I
understand the OP correctly, the wipers will start going every time
ignition is turned on, but they do eventually stop. It seems strange to
me that the switch would change state from "off" to "on" when the car is
left alone. The wiring diagram is somewhat cryptic on this point doesn't
look like there is a simple continuation switch, but rather a wiper /
slip ring setup that signals the ICU about the position of the wiper. It
looks like the signal is high (or battery voltage) when the wiper is at
rest, and low (or grounded) otherwise. Perhaps there is intermittent
contact in this wiper / slip ring assembly, and that a squirt of contact
cleaner would fix it?
