'89 Accord LX issues
I'm an experienced shadetree mechanic, but I mostly do European stuff so I'm
in unfamiliar territory here. Friend of mine has a 1989 Accord LX, it has
the carbureted engine with a rats nest of vacuum lines, valves, solenoids,
and other junk that ends up making it so much more complicated than fuel
injection would have been. Anyway the car is getting around 22 mpg on the
highway which strikes me as very low, even for having an automatic
transmission. A mechanic looked at it once and said he thought the choke
wasn't opening fully, but without taking some things apart I can't even see
what actuates the choke, is it vacuum? If there's something fairly simple I
can do to improve the fuel economy I will, but this thing looks like a
nightmare to work on compared to what I'm used to and I don't have a ton of
free time so I don't want to dig in too deep.
The other more minor thing is the trunk light doesn't work. Bulb is good, I
popped the light assembly out and measured no voltage on the wires to it.
Looking around, I don't see a pin switch anywhere that would turn it on when
the trunk is opened, and turning on the dome light in the passenger
compartment didn't change things either. Where does this light receive power
from and what turns it on?
