2007 CRV Shuddering Spuddering
I have a 2007 CR-V EX-L AWD that was bot in Oct, 2006. One of the very
first of this current bodystyle produced. At 18,000 miles now it's been
fine except for a problem that just (I think) developed. At times it
"spudders/shudders". It's intermittent, but often does it at startup and
can be best demonstrated by turning the car into a hard turn radius,
either left or right and driving into the hardest possible (shortest
radius) circle. Again, however, it's intermittent so even the hard turn
thing frequently doesn't reproduce the problem.
When we first got this CR-V there was talk (on this bulletin board, I
think) about a rear axle problem, as the vehicle made a slight noise on
sharp turns very very very infrequently. The dealer found nothing and I
sort of forgot about it (my daughter drove the car until recently so I
was not tuned into it...but she did not complain about anything). Now
daughter is at college and we've noticed this problem/noise/shudder. It
is possible that this has been going on a while and she just thought it
was normal (hey, she's a kid!).
This very much reminds me, when I was a kid, of my mother's 1970 Chevy
Nova when the power steering pump went a few years into ownership.
Power steering? Rear axle? Transmission? It's very hard to sort this
out. I hate to waste another trip to the dealer where it doesn't
"misbehave" in front of strangers. But with just 1 year left on the
warranty I need to get this sorted out.
Any hints, help, ideas?

Drive it in a slow circle with the wheel cocked all the way to the
left. If it shudders or clicks (similar to a bad axle noise) every
time, take it back to the dealer. Most likely the dual pump fluid in
the rear differential is exhausted. This is a warranty repair. If
your usual dealer won't fix it, go to a different one or call Honda
for help.
