I have a set of 17" alloys that I was considering putting on my 2000 accord.
My question is this,
does anyone know the maximum tire size, specifically width that I can fit
with out rubbing or
any other problems.

The vehicle is not lowered and never will be.

I know that 225/45/-17 will give me the exact rolling diameter as the stock
195/65-15 tires.
I'm just concerned about possible rubbing. Perhaps 215 would be a safer fit?

Anyone have any experience with this?

I have a 2000 Accord LX4. After the original
195/65-15 Michelin MXV4 Plus I switched to
215/60-15 Goodyear Eagle HP on the OEM 6" steel wheels. There was never any
rubbing and based on how they looked I would think 225 would fit. If you are
doing this for performance then 215 with a quality soft rubber tire would meet
even the most demanding situations. If looks are important than 225 might be
worth trying. Some tire shops would be willing to put the 225 on your car and
drive around the parking lot. They can tell if it rubs and then put the 215 on
your car instead.

You might also like to know that putting 215 tires on the OEM 6" wheels has some
drawbacks. It is difficult to get the tires balanced and bumps that strike
under the side of the tire will try to twist the steering wheel. Your 17"
wheels should not have these problems. I am now using
205/60-15 Goodyear Eagle LS and it is much more civilized.

I think I'm going for 215/50-17 or possibly 215/45-17 and maybe just maybe
205/50-17
I believe all of these should fit well. I'm going to avoid the possibility
of rubbing with the 225s.
