1994 honda accord with a bad computer
I have a 1994 honda accord with a bad computer it runs when it wants to
but is getting worse.
i have took my car to a shop and they told me the same thing i thought
bad computer.
what i need to know is can just do away with the computer and slap a
Carburetor on the car.
i know i will have to rewire the car and buy parts but it would give me
something to do, i live in louisiana and this is my spair car anyway.
if anyone knows how to do this or can tell me the parts i need please
email me.

I think I know your Accord. It starts good in the morning if it's still
cool outside, but if it's sunny / hot inside the car it will crank, but
not start. If it runs, you go past my place to the store to get
cigarettes, or fill with gas and when you've paid the cashier and come
back out, it will crank but not start and you try and try to get it to
start but you don't want to run the battery totally dead so you have to
leave it until later. Later when you came back, it starts right up, but
won't go again if you make the mistake of shutting it off.
Does this sound like your car? Awful, ain't it??

Switch to propane (LPG). You need no electronics to run with propane,
except the ignition. If you switch to a magneto ignition, you can do without the
car battery. If you have spark, propane is good choice and good for the
environment. Propane, with almost half the cost of gas, you have nothing to
loose. The savings will pay for itself in 3 years. Convert and help boycott the
high gas prices.
Switching to carburetor is a nightmare. With about a "gazillion" hoses you'll
still have to struggle with emissions, not to mention diagnosing the carb is
a pain in the ****.

It would be easier to coat the engine compartment with gasoline and set
it on fire for about ten minutes. Replace whatever is burned with new
parts from an old Taurus.
You can thank me later. bob

Forget about changing to a carburetor; it's easier and cheaper to fix what
you have no matter what's wrong with it. (Even the fuel pump is wrong for a
carburetor.)
I doubt the computer is bad unless there has been water in the car above the
floorboard... in that case, I agree it's bad. If you want to pursue that,
you can get a computer from a wrecking yard for about $100 with 30 day
warranty. If it works for 30 days it will work many years. Pull-it-yourself
yards usually charge even less, just make sure the model number on the
computer is the same. It would at least rule out the computer.
As to what is really wrong, see if it matches this

I don't know if a 1994 Accord computer is same the basic thing as the
one in my 1991 Accord which I managed to kill a few months back. It's
under the rug where the passenger stretches out their feet. Anyway,
Honda wanted $950 for the computer, an online place had it for $500,
and my local junkyard had it for $60. The junkyard one works just
fine.
