1993 Accord with Heat/AC problem, desperate
Hi.
Got a '93 Accord, runs great. I'm trying to sell it but there's this problem
with the heat/AC. Since it got warm, I've noticed that the AC doesn't cool
the car. What it seems like is that the heat is still on. That is, when
I'm going down the road, no AC, I feel really hot air comnig out of the
vents. If I turn on the AC, the air from the vents cools off quite a bit,
but isn't cold enough to cool down the passenger compartment. The cable
running from the heat-control (hot-cold) dial to somewhere behind the
glovebox seems to be connected: I can feel the cable move inside the jacket
when I turn the dial. I've taken the glovebox out, but can't see much. I'm
wondering if the valve (or whatever) that turns on/off hot air flow is
stuck. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated. I gotta sell it
so I can get some cash. Taking it to a dealer is not something I can afford
right now.

If it's the same as our '95 Odyssey (and I bet it is), the cable turns
off a 'hot water tap' under the hood, just in front of the firewall. You
might have to remove the air filter box to see it. Adjust the cable so
it pushed the valve closed tighter.

On my '92, the AC needed charged. Was real cold for three years after
that, then the condenser got a hole in it. Now at 220,000 miles I just
roll down the windows.
Tell me more about the one you have for sale. Where are you? bob

You need to adjust the heater linkage, this is found below the glovebox,

water is still coursing thru the core, the system is still not going to
function the way it would if the water valve was shutting off (unless

the heater hose)
Anybody else have heat that stays on all SUMMER ? ? I've owned two
Odysseys that did it. (until I fixed the adjustment at the valve)

function the way it would if the water valve was shutting off (unless

black plastic cover, the linkage falls apart at the bell crank. there
are 2 cables on that car , one from the head to the bell crank and the
other from the bell crank to the heater valve.

I read the related posts and those intelligent people probably gave you
the solution that you need. However, if you do everything they say and you
still have problems, go to a radiator shop and have them inject some feon
or whatever is now used instead of feon in your system. When I lived in
Virginia, I did not use the AC during the winter months. As a result, I
had to have feon injected in the system shortly after the winter months
cames to an end.

I read the related posts and those intelligent people probably gave you
the solution that you need. However, if you do everything they say and you
still have problems, go to a radiator shop and have them inject some feon
or whatever is now used instead of feon in your system. When I lived in
Virginia, I did not use the AC during the winter months. As a result, I
had to have feon injected in the system shortly after the winter months
cames to an end.
