1989 Accord AC Problem
About a year ago, I replaced the Clutch on the Keihin compressor that
was in the car, it was making noise. I purchased one from Honda and but
it in without opening the system. This year I developed a slow leak (3
weeks), which turned into a large leak in the condesnser. I replaced
the condenser, evacuated the system and re-charged. I still have a
leak. I tried a can of UV dye and cannot see anything leaking. With a
halogen leak detector, when I go near the compressor, it indicates
refigerant loss. Prior to me replacing the Condensor, I had no problems
with the compressor. I have read in the past that when the clutch
bearing goes, it is a sign that the shaft seal on the compressor is
about to go, is this true ? I am thinking that the leak is now at the
shaft seal of the compressor. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a big problem with these compressors. Such a problem that Honda
will not sell you one. If you have one go bad, Honda will sell you a
conversion kit to the ND compressor. I would probably try to form my own
conversion kit with a stop at a local salvage yard.

Re: 1989 Accord AC Problem
When you replaced the refrigerent did you replace the refrigerent oil?
No oil in the refrigerent, could dry out the seal and cause a leak at
the compressor.
Sometimes refrigerent comes mixed with oil and sometimes it is in a
seperate container.
The lubricant type is spelled out in your owners manual.
