What would cause an Ignition Control Module to go bad in a 91 Honda Civic 1.6L SI?

try building a type of heat shield to keep the heat off of it, excessive heat can cause this, when you install it, make sure you slather it with the silicon grease they give you, that helps it transfer the heat off of the part and prevent it from overheating and burning up.
make sure all wiring connectors are good and the plug wire are good and not gronding out.
