what is an easy way to boost the power on a 96 honda civic?

im buying a 96 civic dx coupe and the stock engine has 103hp- doesnt carry a long way any more. what are some inexpensive ways to boost the power? it would be nice to get up to around 170hp, if possible.

im may eventually do a swap with a V-tec engine with more power then turbo charge it, but for now, just looking for some inexpensive alternatives.

i am willing to spend a couple hundred $$$

Add a cool air intake and a performance exhaust. You would be amazed what kind of horsepower you will gain!

103 to 170 for a couple hundred. right. Why put a ton of cash for unnecessary stuff in a 12 year old car? Besides, look at how much more you will be paying at the pump.
