I was quoted $229 for new timing belt and water pump on my 98 civic. 100,000 miles. Is this a reasonable price for the honda dealer? I also need to tack on air filter change, spark plugs, tranny fluid, and valve adjustment to that.

You would be very lucky to get out of the dealership door with a bill of $229. Things haven't been going so great in the car business..........or any business these days. My son-in-law works for a dealership and told me how the mechanics are expected to find "extra" work for cars that come in for routine service.

Look around for an independent mechanic who would be willing to give you a better deal. There are a lot of them around.
