it depends on what kind of oil you use. Many synthetic oils can go for about 4,000-5,000 miles before you need another oil change. The one I use is actually good for 7,500 miles between oil changes.If you use nonsynthetic, it is generally recommended to get it changed every 3,000 miles.I'd go see the mechanic asap if I was you. It's much better to be safe than sorry. But I worry about those new technological changes, especially on newer cars...I feel there arer too many recalls with new cars to risk chancing anything.

i had a 2006 honda pilot, and when i took it to the dealer for an oil change at 3000 miles (bought it brand new), they said that it wasn't necessary with a honda to change it until the car was at about 10%. they said that now, it depends on engine rotations and how you drive your car. if you drive it hard and rev the engine up all the time, it could be at 3k miles, but if you take it easy, it could be 8 or 9k miles. trust it. they are making oil better now, and cars better now.
