My 1998 Honda Civic is making a ticking noise when it runs and sometimes it starts...
...and sometimes it doesnt.? it has 110, 000 miles on it and the timing belt hasn't been changed, the battery and starter do work. it only starts when the throttle it pushed all the way down. i have heard that it could be the valves offsetting the pistons, and the rods but i'm not sure and i need help. if this is the case am i better off getting a new motor or should i just replace everything?

First take it somewhere that you can trust, and get their expert opinion. I've taken cars I've had before to many places that wanted to revamp everything and charge me a whole lot, when in most cases u just need minor maintenance. Ask around for a trustworthy shop.

You?re up for a valve adjustment, I?d bet that?s what?s causing the ticking sound. I however would recommend you take care of timing belt first, the valve adjustment can wait! If the timing belt snaps you?ll need a new engine!
