My first car was and Automatic Honda Civic and it was a great starter car. They are small, reliable, maneuverable and economical. I say "Yes" to Honda as your first car based on my own experience.

A few tears ago I had an 04 Civic and a 05 Mustang GT. The Civic was more to insure because they told us that because it is a typical first car they get in more accidents. Got rid of it.

of course automatic b/c less hassle in traffic and hill areas















saves gas, not too expensive to upkeep

fine choice find an automatic model and one driven by a mature (not old) couple. Though they are usually fixed up already a car that has been driven by a younger person generally has not been treated well and likely to cause problems down the road. there are exceptions on both cases but your odds improve with older owners. Nissan and Toyota as well.
