would using certain oil grades affect vtec?
hey canadian tire recently had a sale on castrol syntec synthetic oilds ranging from 5w30 to 5w50 ... in the rush of excitement i bought the 5w50 and did an oil change, i didnt relize it was 5w50 after i dropped it in. i havent heard vtec kick in for a while so the other day i slammed my gas pedal in to hear it kick in @ around 5k rpm.....no change in engine tone....whats going on there? did the oil affect it? doesnt vtec go through some test and one of them being oil pressure?

ya but if uve got a bent valve and or fuked up springs or something not working properly in the mechanical assembly...vtec wont work, that comp knows somethings wrong and wont let vtec engage. do u have a check engine light?

i put in 5w50 in my b16a2 it asks for 5w30 but mobile1 was on sale so i just grabbed it anyways, but my vtech is working perfectly fine, maybe its just a coincidence something else probably went wrong around the same time

The age old question synthetic or conventional, if your car has low k's then u can go synthetic and have no problems and better motor condition, if u have higher k's stick with conventional because switching to synthetic may cause problems internally.
I have heard and read some articles that state using conventional oil and regular gas (87 octane) is best for Honda's, there have actually been situations where switching to synthetic and high octane fuel have decreased hp by up to 5 hp.

Have you check all the electrical connections under the hood, you may have inadvertantly knocked something loose or completly disconnected. I don't see why oil viscosity would matter unless you've got lots of miles on it, you might have some blow-by.
Good Luck
