Removing the Resonator box on a Civic '96 HB?

Hi, my friend recently took the tubing that goes from the air filter to the air box so that he can have more sound. He has an Ek 96 HB D16y7. Alternately i have the same car. Could you tell me;The Pros; (if any) The Cons; (if any)This was done mainly for sound on his part. I want to know if it is dangerous for the "health" of the car and what is does to performance? I suppose lower Torque at low revs. Bit tell me what you think i might want to do it as the sound is exciting. Thank you!
