Problem with vtech & suspension question..
I have a b16a2 in my 98 civic and My v-tech stopped working a while ago. I can't seem to figure out whats wrong with it. One second it was there and the next, gone I had one guy do some tests on it and he said that everything that makes the vtech work is working fine but I find that hard to believe since it's still not working. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or has had this happen to them and has any sugestions.
Also, I NEED to upgrade my suspension but im not sure whats the best way to go. I know tokiko's are good but just wondering if anyone has any other setups that work well for them. I'm looking to spend around $5-700 so I'd like to hear some ideas.
Thanks for the help!

check all grounds, and connections to the solenoid. If I remember correctly should be a green wire from the (top hat) vtec solenoid, on the left side of the head in front or behind the distributor.

check your oil. the solenoid needs certain amount of oil pressure to function.
As for suspension i'd look in to a set of full coilovers like these:
| JDM Engines, Transmissions & More
they're a little over your stated budget but it's worth every penny. you have your choice between 3 spring rates at no extra charge. if you want dampening adjustability then you can get the 8-way adjustables, again with 3 options for spring rates.

the mechanical function of your vtec works by your vtec solenoid. It uses oil pressure along with oil pressure switch, knock sensor, and 2nd oxygen sensor. Does you ecu have any codes?
In terms of suspension i would get tokico blues or whites on eibachs if you want to go with a springs. If you are picky about ride height i am sure there is examples on car domain .com that you see. Remeber to take into consideration rim and tire size when looking at pictures. I am not sure what your setup is but usually honda guys run 15's or 16's max.
The company PIC has by far the best suspension i have been experienced with for hondas. I have installed a few of the dampening adjustable and non dampening adj. types and they are amazing. I would recommend the pic adjustables and ditch any other suspenion ideas that you have because like integra mark was saying it is by far the best bang for buck. Save your pennies and do it right the first time!

Thanks
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's replied to the post...
No my V-tech isn't working (yet) but I'm getting an oil change today and hopefully that will fix it and I won't have to spend alot of money. The place I took it to checked the solenoid and the wires around it to see if they were working, and said that they were all working and usually if somethings wrong with it then your rpms will be funny but mine are fine.
Crazyae you mentioned if my ecu had any codes. To answer your question - I have no idea I don't think its been chipped but I'm not 100% sure.
If its not the oil, then I'm guessing I have 2 options, its either something in the wiring so I can have someone go through them, or get msd so then I can use that box that lets me set the v-tech point. I'll put out a reply after the oil change and let everyone know the outcome.
I'm also gonna check out that suspension integramark gave me the link to. I like that ride height option at no extra charge too.
If anyone else has any other ideas let me know
Thanks
Well I got an oil change yesturday and that didn't fix the problem so if anyone has any other ideas as to what it could be please let me know.
Thanks:thumbsup:

Vtec will not engage under the following conditions:
- Car is not warmed up yet
- low oil pressure (oil light)
- faulty o2 sensor
I had the same problem as you with my B16A, and it turned out to be my o2 sensor that wasnt wired properly after my header install.
these 3 things will prevent Vtec from kicking in....and dont forget to check that Vteck Fluid!! HAHAHA

So go to your local Canadian Tire and ask for the Vtec Fluid
Here's a video of a guy who added some Vtec Fluid into his Cobra Mustang
