I need some info PLEASE...JDM GSR Question
OK guys here's the thing, Ive never owned a Honda before (VW"s)
but I was selling by Jetta, and I was offered a trade of a
99 civic SIR, with a GSR JDM swap in it
with the usual bolt ons, Catback exhaust, intake, etc
how would that engine fair up to a MKIV jetta VR6?
I know the jetta has alot more torque, but with the same mods, exhaust, intake.
are they close?
also, VALUE wise, how does the value of a 99 civic hold up?

Hey.... as for value it really all depends on how many kms are on the car..... but yes that is a very powerful engine...... the difference between honda motors and vws is where you get most of your power...... in hondas you will get all of your power once you hit v-tec.... i dont know much about vws but i know that there power is throughout all levels of the rpm range..... anyways with all the regular bolt ons.... considering the gsr has over 180 hp and is in a much lighter car.... i think that they would be roughly about the same speed..... i hope i helped you out but let me know about the kms on the car and i can help you out with price.... a very good place to help you understand the value of the car would be autotrader

yea, the GSR has like 170hp plus whatever bolt on's the owner added. that engine is good for modding (i.e. boost) and is an upgrade from the original B16A2 (sir only). the thing with civic sir's (EM1 i believe) is that i would never leave it anywhere alone. thevies love that car.
as for the vr6, its one of the best engines for modding for vdubs. the honda will be cheaper to get fast, but the vr6 can match the honda (although more expensive to get there).
if its a real sir, then the value will hold depending on other factors (i.e km's etc). should be around 10-12grand now i believe

Simply put the GSR is a better motor from all aspects of looking at it
Reliability being the number 1 reason standing...vr6 is a a litre more of displacement and 2 extra cylinders to tell you the truth stock for stock
99 GSR
99.5 GTI VR6
you'd be surprised who'd vtec there way to the winning end of that race
Anyways endless opportunities with the honda but remember this now WITH HONDAS PROS ALL MANY OF THEM YOU GET THE ONE BAD COPS HATE THEM AND BE PREPARED FOR THE HASSLES THAT WAS MY ONLY REASON FOR SELLING MINE....I COULDNT HANDLE BEING STOPPED EVERYDAY AT LEAST ONCE
GOD DAMN FAST AND THE FURIOUS
And if you think its because it looked all riced out it wasnt here is my old car

as other mentioned above the SIR would be more reliable and cheaper to modify. If you do have the cash to modify the VR6 then do it. If not just pick up the civic. Also make sure there is no rust on the rear quarters and ask to take it for a testdrive before buying it.

personally, i heard that its not the best idea to buy other peoples modded rides, especially swaps!!!! make sure you do a lot of research and that the person is trustworthy!!!
other than that, sounds good, good luck!!
