Honda Motors To Recall Over 166,000 Vehicles For Engine Trouble
Torrance, CA (AHN) - Following reports of potential engine troubles, Honda Motor Corporation on Monday announced a recall of over 166,000 U.S. vehicles from 2005-2006. The recall affects 2005 models of the Acura RL, TL and TSX sedans, 2005 Honda Accord coupes, sedans and hybrids, 2005 Odyssey minivans and 2006 Ridgeline trucks.
Honda spokesman Chris Martin told AP that the recall in the U.S. will be followed by a recall in "quite a few" other countries worldwide. The U.S. vehicles will reportedly be recalled due to a fuse box coil wire that could possibly cause the vehicles to stall.
The problem came into picture when Honda received various complaints of vehicles failing to start. The automaker also found out that the sealer material leaked onto a coil wire inside the fuel pump relay on some of the vehicles. This causes the wire to become brittle and also break in some cases, causing the engine to stall or fail to start.
However, there have been no reports of injuries or accidents linked to this problem. The dealers would now inspect the fuel-pump relay, which is located in the vehicle's under-dash fuse box. If found defective, the part will then be replaced free of cost.
The recall is expected to begin in early April.
