Automatic Tranny's
Im wondering if its possible to get an Auto Setup thats has just as fast or faster shifting time then a Standard tranny. And anyone know how much a Z-Tranny Costs w. Installation?(Standard Shifting w. Auto Clutch)

The main advantage to having an auto tranny is for drag racing only. They take a lot of torque away from the engine just to turn them over. However if you have a rear wheel drive car wth lots of torque ie. camaro, vette, GN you can use the brakes to hold the car and get on the gas before the lights go. This builds up tranny fluid pressure, and allows the car to launch hard. How ever for light front wheel drives, an auto is more of a hinderance then a help. Just try driving a cadillac STS in the rain with the tc turned off. Manual is always the way to go for a small car. I thought about putting an auto trans in my 84 VW until I drove 2 of them 1 with a 2 liter auto and one with a 2 liter stick shift. Neither of them were turbo, and the engines wereswapped in basically stock, but the stick could murder the auto every time.

Yeah well that's why my rabbit has a 5 speed. That 2l 16 v auto rabbit will still take a sir. however onthe strip it got murdered by the 5 speed. 13 sec to 16 sec. only difference was tranny

Now that would be SLOW!

Yeah you couldn't pay me to build a vw 2l 8v or for that matter a 1.8t. I would sooner put a b18c in my vw than either of those. lol!
For the civic question, I wouldn't waste my time on an auto unless you either plan on dragging full time or spend a lot of time stuck in traffic. I love my MK1 but the clutch is a bitch if you get sitting in traffic for long.

Not as far as I know. But the governor will keep you from over revving the engine. This can help or not. If for instance you have a 100,000 Spoon engine that revs to 20 million rpm, you definitly wouldn't want the governor because it would sift way to early causing you to miss your power band.

Just out of curiosity what civic are you building and for what purpose? If you are building a street car that may go to the strip occasionally and maybe autocross, or are you building a car strictly for the drag strip?
