If I was you I would not choose the hybrid Civic, the regular one is good enough 40/45 vs regular 24/36. that equates to 42 vs 28 combined. For the Civic ($15,010MSRP) thats $10,714 total gas money for 100k miles and for the hybrid(22,600) it is $7,142. The total money saved over 100k miles is 3500. Lets say that it takes you 6 years to amass the total mileage and you drive a ton. In that six years if you instead invested that 7,500 you would more than equal the cost saved. Another thought is if you need a hybrid car because it will make you feel good about yourself and your impact on the environment the Prius gets 52mpg and costs roughly the same amount of money as the hybrid Civic. It pains me to recommend a Toyota because I personally own a 1993 Civic hatchback (1800lbs) with a 2004 accord 2.4L engine in it, which puts out around 430whp and a stock 2006 RSX. My hot rod Civic gets 28mpg city and 40 highway, and it will smoke a new z06 corvette. If your teenager wants a stylish or sporty car then the Honda will be the right pick, but if all together practicality are of the utmost importance then the Toyota will probably be the best option.
