I have an 86 honda civic & I been intermittently having some problems. I took it into my honda dealer to ask if I had a problem with the transmission. Fortunately not.In my case the problem was with the idling of the car when in neutral or park, such that I did not want to shift to anything else until I could get the idling to become much less. Sometimes if I rev up the engine, then let id come down again, it comes all the way down, sometimes not. I consider this a new problem. It did not always used to do this.Perhaps when I was at the honda dealer I failed to adequately explain the problem, or when the technician looked at it there was miscommunication. However I think you should first go to the dealer. If there is anything wrong that needs fixing, driving it without that being fixed could make it worse and more expensive to get fixed.
