2001 Honda Accord Transmission problem
Hi,
I have recently purchased in (Sepetember 2008 )a used Honda Accord EX V6 with 89K miles on it from a second owner. At the time of purchase I did a vehicle inspection at a private mechanic and he said everything is good.Yesterday when I started my car in D4 I noticed that it has D4 bliked and Check engine light turned on. I had taken the car to Honda dealer and the dealer said that the they found 0780 failure code that is transmission shift malfunction and the repairing costs will costs around $3039 and I was totally depressed with it and I asked the dealer not to start the repair as I can not offord that much money since I recently moved to USA and took my car back. When I was taking my car back the dealer said that he can negotiate with American Honda and Company may accept to pay either 100%,75% or 50% of the repairs even though I felt happy but I surprised and asked the dealer as why Honda will pay for repair and he said it is to build the customer relationship.
I did a study on this and I found that Honda was suied in 2006 December for failure in their transmission systems in 2000-2001 models and I have verified my car's VIN number there and it shoes my car's VIN number is valid for settlement.
As I am new here I do not know whether my car is eligible for it or not as per the notice of proposed settlement car should be less than 109K miles on it by August 2006.My car is now at 91K miles on it. If I am eligible I do not the know procedure on how to proceed with it as I am new in the country what steps I have to take and whom to approch for the settlement if the dealer not agrees to pay the 100% repairing costs?
Can you please help me resolving this as it is disturbed me a lot and I do not have any alternate vehicle to commute to work too.
Thanks,
Rajesh
