Why would a car that has VTEC come in automatic?

I own a 2007 Honda Civic Si sedan and I know first hand that VTEC does not "kick in" until 5800RPM. Is it difficult, if not impossible to rev an automatic transmission car that high in higher gears. If I am missing something please tell me. Thanks. By the way- my Civic is getting it's transmission replaced (yes already!!) and I am stuck with a 07 Accord LX. What a piece of crap! This thing is soooo slooooooowww.

the only reason VTECH was invented was because HonDuh car would not make enough "Umph" power and torque so they had to change the timing in their engine to get it to move a-slight-bit quicker... Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control thus abbreviated VTECH
