Is this light engine pinging ok? ?
I just bought a 2008 Honda Accord 4 cyl and have less than 1000 miles on it. I run brand name 87 octane gas in it and occasionally, around 1400-1600 rpm I hear very light pinging under mild throttle around 15-20 mph. But it doesn't happen all the time. I've even tried to accelerate from that rpm uphill and have not heard it, so I can't really force it to do it. My question is, is this normal? Honda engines are so well engineered and reliable, and with this car being so new it's hard for me to believe this is really a problem with the engine. Maybe it's just set to run very lean from the factory? Engine temp is normal and it may do it perhaps once on a 15 mile trip in 60-80 deg F weather and only for a couple of seconds. Thanks.

First check what fuel it is to use. If it a high compression engine then it needs higher octane. You can read it near the fuel cap
I have a 1989 toyota corona with 3s-fe which needs 96 octane here. A freind borrowed it for 3 weeks and tried to use normal fuel and heard noises
BTW your car seems to use normal fuel
