I have a 1992 Honda Accord lx and its been sitting in the garage for 3 yrs...?

Im going away to college and I wanted to get the car started..I bought a new battery and hooked it up and immediately the brake lights came on and wouldnt go off....I tried to start it and it wouldnt start....what could be wrong with it??? It has gas, fresh oil, and everything......Please help!!!!!
