My 1990 Honda Accord LX has about 107K miles on it right now. Recently, when i run the engine, it has a much louder, more metallic whine to it. It also seems to be giving a lot less power to the wheels than it used to. Is this a problem with the muffler, or could it be something with the engine?

Sounds like the exhaust manifold system....My VW Cabriolet did the same thing and I had a hole in my exhaust system. I hated sounding like a ricer and everyone in town knows my saying is "Rice if for eating not driving" so running around town sounding like I tortured my exhaust system on purpose was not fun. Take your car in and ask them to check under the hood at the exhaust manifold system and see what it comes up as. If they say that isn't the problem, take a mechanic out in the car or have them drive it to see if they can figure it out.

It does sound like your muffler may have failed, but you might just have a exhaust leak in the pipe somewhere. I doubt this had caused you to lose power unless everything has gotten stopped up. You may just need a tune up, and give that little honda some Luv'n

yea its on its way to its death bed here in a month or two, id sell the thing now while you still can
