ok, no more lies
awhile back i had said i was going to keep my car until the end of the year or so. well that was a lie, i've been looking at LS1s lately and was going to buy one before the end of june.
i was thinking today and its going to be tricky...
i make about 1200 a month. an LS1 w/beater will cost 375 per month insurance and i will have to repay my loan with about 200-300 per month. gas will be more, so about 300 per month for gas (considering work).
but this car w/beater will cost about 300 for insurance, and about 250 for gas.
that leaves about 225-325 per month for food, mods, etc. with a V8, but about 650 with my V6, almost double.
also im going to college in the fall, i dont know if i'd be able to have a V8 during college.
so......is it a better idea to keep my V6 until im out of college? my record will be clean by then and i will have had 3 years driving experience, hence much cheaper insurance by then.

no i need a beater for work...remember i'm a pizza dude. i put a lotta miles on carmen in the past month, i need a beater no matter what car i have. but chris youre in college now, as are some of you here, so does this seem smart?

IMO, buy an LS1 block, rebuild it for performance, and then drop it into your car. That way you have all the time in the world to do it... You're not paying for stuff all at once, you can buy the block... take it apart... wait a month & have it machined... wait a month and have the short block rebuilt, then buy heads later on down the road, etc. Then when it's time to drop it in, buy a real cheap beater to last you a few months, install the new engine, and tada you have your fun.
Edit, just read your above post.. you'll already have the beater when you drop the engine in so yeh.

well when my dad gets off his *** and fills out his portion of the FAFSA i'll know how much financial aid im getting. but its community college, so even if it is outta my pocket not too bad.
but see this is what im thinking. and brian i like your idea...but i dont think i'd want an LS1. theres a lot that needs to be changed on the 93-97 cars, and i kinda like the LS1 fronts better after this chop grant did for me:

so thats a good idea...have a project car on the side. but i dont know if we'll have the room for 3 cars, specially since we're moving to a smaller place soon.
but im thinking either buy an LT1 short block and t-56 then build them up big with LT4 kit, 396 kit, and all that goodness then slap it in, and then do a t-top conversion.
or....buy a busted LS1 car and work on the motor and get it fixed up...

keep your car until your done with college, you want to keep as much stress off you as possible, you don't need a car payment until you have a good job, or you end up like me and so far behind on bills that bankruptcy can't help

exactly what i was thinking. when i graduate college im going to keep my pizza job and get a job at a car parts store and work two jobs. that'll get me money to hopefully live with a roommate and have V8 insurance.
god ****. all my life i've been someone who lives with a plan. why? i should just say who gives a **** and do what i want. if i want to lower my car and get headers, i'll do it. i shouldnt worry if im going to sell it soon, i dont know if i will. plans suck.

oh another thing. if i keep my car i need to rebuild the motor and get a new trans. lol.
theres still a leak from somewhere on top, i replaced the valve cover gaskets many times, i think the covers are bent. also the rear main seal is gettin kinda bad. but when i replace my tranny i can do that. the 2-3 shift is gettin worse, so i can fix it.
