New models of import vehicles
Hi guys,
Was wondering about the legality of import vehicles (specifically japanese models), including newer models.
I have been told that imported vehicles that are manufactured for more then 15 years can be easily, and legally imported into north america. Is this true?
What about newer models? For example, how would one acquire a mk4 supra, or an FD RX7?
Thanks

it was sold as a 1991 model car. so beginning this Dec (2006) you will be able to legally import those first FD RX-7s that were built for the Japanese market. which btw, is essentially the same as the ones sold here...minus the fact the Japanese ones have 4seats and ours have 2.
as for the MKIV Supra. i'm not sure if it was a 1992 or 1993 model year car in Japan. my guess is that it would be a 1992.

you will be hard pressed to find either of them for a decent price and in good condition.
If you are serious about the mk4 supra, I know of someone you can talk to about purchasing one, but dont expect to pay any less than $40000-$45000 for one. You best bet for both of those is to get one south of the border, a nice clean texas car. It will be considerably cheaper.
