man oh man. what a week.
well today i tightened the exhaust manifold flange, started it up. there was thig crazy ticking from the engine, probably lifters not broken in yet. other than that it was running great. i broke it in and changed the oil. went for a drive, and then my heart sunk.
it was so slow. it hesitated so bad. i was able to get it up to 85, but that took awhile. i stopped a let it idle, it took a while to find it, so after analyzing the symptoms, it appeared as if maybe it was lean, which makes sense with a new cam. well i took it to my mentor, who has a nice lil shop in town.
he hooked the scanner up to it, the ecu showed the A/F at 14.7:1. absolutely perfect. then he started listening and said it sounded like the timing was off, but with DIS you cant adjust it. i thought maybe i installed the timing chain wrong, but since i was so worried that i'd do that i made sure i installed it right. is there anyway to check the timing on a DIS without removing the valve covers?
anyway he checked the plugs, the wires were installed right, but when he unplugged 2, 3, 5, or 6 the rpms dropped like they should, but then when he unplugged 1 or 4, which happen to be on the same coil, the engine died. very weird. then he checked the injectors. they were all plugged in right, so he got a noid light and plugged that into the wire harness, there was no pulse. he tried 6 more noid lights. no pulse, yet the rpm dropped when he unplugged the injectors.
f-in weird. tomorrow ima go back and we're gonna go through a much more thorough diagnosis, but does anyone have any ideas?

adam do you even know what a tune is? basically all you do to "tune" an engine is adjust the timing, but on my car and your car its a DIS ignition system and the computer takes care of timing. theres nothing i can do about that. no companies will tune a V6, let alone a 3.4.

umm...my car can be tuned, thanks. Anyways, all I know is that NORMALLY when you do a cam or head swap, the car needs to be tuned to accept the bigger cam/heads. I can garantee LS1 Edit doesn't cost $28900325 to change the timing and that's it. Put your car on autotap to see if it's the timing or not, among other things.

it doesnt have to be tuned. plenty of 3.4s have been modded even more than me and no tunes were done. just cruise by camarov6.com and check that out. there are 3.4s runnin around with cams and havent got their ecu tuned.

didnt he pull wires from 7 and 8? lol j/k with ya. yea the DIS sucks so much, its a pain to run nitrous, but luckily tehres lots of shops here that can tune anything with anythign.lol. hope you get everything worked out im sure you will, just take your time and youll eventually get it right.

well i went out and did what i can. i took the plugs out, they were at about .040...they should be at .045 so i regapped them (yes, i gapped bosch +4s...didnt know it could be done) and i noticed a vacuum line was only half way on. so i put that back and now im waiting for the ecu to reset, the batts unplugged.
