'I BUILT IT MYSELF PEOPLE'.... guide us..
Please “I built it myself" wizards…
why does it matter if you bought your car or built your car? that argument doesn’t make sense, as you can have pride in both, and one or the other doesn’t make the car worth more or less..
i built my motor, top to bottom with a bit of guidance, did my heads, my intake.. did the rear end, full exhaust, did some of the turbo kit..
yet, ive never understood the "oh i built it myself' attitude.. i enjoy driving my car, didn’t enjoy building it... besides, i made good enough money to pay people to teach me/do it.. it was a choice.
so, can someone explain to me the rationale behind the "oh i built it myself"
Does that mean you’re smarter than the person who didn’t build it themselves? Or does that mean you couldn’t afford to pay someone to do it, so you’re broke?
Or does it mean it really doesn’t mean and it’s a retarded argument?
Regards

I agree. A general knowledge of your car and how it works is key, but if you can't put your car together. It should still be respected.
Another topic that I don't understand is the Nitrous/Turbo/ N.A fight. Some people say nitrous is for cheaters, or turbos are for cheaters. I say that. I think if you can build a car to hold the abuse of nitrous or a turbo. Huge respect to that.

I can't really afford to pay people to do it for me, but I enjoy building and driving something that I put a lot of time and effort into. I just don't like when it breaks, and it's my fault. Hey, I built it, if it broke, who's fault is it?

Well I think its more of the glory and bragging rights that you have when you do build it yourself, then and only then are you allowed you say "yea I built it myself" not becise you may be poor or just can't afford it. Not becuse the other perosn who paid for it, is any "stupider." It about doing your way, which in my oppinion is better then any other persons way.

It's a pride issue.
I take a lot of pride in my car(s) because I built them entirely myself, interior, exterior, drivetrain, suspension, engine, ect.
Can I afford to have a shop do the work? Sure if I drove a honda. There is not a single shop in the GTA that would have built my car to exactly how I have it. I had some engine work done by a shop once and a month later I ripped the engine out and re-did it all myself because I was not please with how it turned out. I am very picky, my way or the highway.
And besides, I am taking engineering, I have a machine shop at my disposal and know how to use it. I have cut my costs in half by fabricating my own parts.
