Ouch! Poor Lotus.
However, it's a mistake that would be easy to make if you're not paying special attention. Everyone knows the 'standard' way to put a car on a hoist... most cars have the engine in the front. They're not used to the engine being in the back.

That mistake is easily made on a rear engine vehicle. Most people at tire shops expect the weight to be in the front, and just put the lift points on the frame rail in the front, and since usually the frame rail doesnt extend the whole way to the rear of the car, they put it on the pinch weld on the rear. If you did that in this case... all the weight being in the rear, it would... you guessed it, fall.
The tech was either ignorant, in a rush, your just made a mistake. That really sucks, because the worst they can do is fire the tech, and if they were like an independent buisness like mine, insurance doesnt always cover that, so out of pocket it goes.

I have worked on one of those, and they are not that hard to lift (I always checked my cars stability before getting it over about 6 inches off the ground so it wouldn't crash on my head) the tech should have known given he was told it was rear engine, but having worked at a goodyear I know the techs alot of times don't know (they guys changing tires alot of times are hs students taking a vocational course)

If you read the post the guy told him everything and actually went over the owner's manual on how to lift it with them and then left the manual with them when he left. They have NO excuse!

I trust shops less and less lately. Ever since I heard about them scamming on not doing oil changes and making you pay... plus I dont like other people workin on my car unless I can watch. A lot of them really dont give a ****, and I dont care to have what I take care of being treated like thier POS beater. Not a fan at all.
