Customs charges when shipping wheels from the states?

Hi there, I'm looking to buy some wheels on ebay that would be shipped from the states using FedEx.

If they are valued at $1000CAD what kind of customs chargers should I expect, I know UPS rips you off nicely with their brokerage charges but I have no experience with FedEx

Thanks!

Fedex is better but they still rape you....

get them to put it down as a return or Repair.. then you can cut some charges off.. also if possible get it shipped to a business addresa and you save... on 700 Dollars CDN i payed 85 bucks customs with UPS

On a $200usd package from san diego FedEX ground charged me $78cdn.

You dont pay anything at the door, then 3 weeks later they send you a letter in the mail. I doubt I will even pay it.

Did some research and it turns out that FedEx will not charge brokerage fees if you use Priority instead of Ground. The shipping itself will be a little more but you don't get a nasty suprise later.

Also, if it's an automotive part and it's manufactured in the US ..Canada will not charge duty.

Also, if it's a 'warranty return' no duty charges.

Trying to get the seller of these rims to ship it with priority, mark it as made in the USA and warranty return, and try to get it shipped to my work building Cross my fingers

On $1k declared value, non-gift it will be aprox. $100-$150 assuming it is made in the US and shipped to a residential address...If they were made in japan or anywhere other than the US, the rates will rise. That is via USPS, as there are no brokerage fees. UPS, Fedex, DHL etc. all make up their own brokerage charges - And if you think they'll just let you not pay them forever...There's collection agencies for a reason and they WILL ruin your credit rating eventually.
I work with customs so I deal with this stuff every day

Be careful if you don't pay, UPS sent my account to collections.

A good friend of mine worked for DHL, she said to just call FedEX and tell them that the online tracking said no cash on delivery, and the driver told me there were no customs/brokerage/duty fees. They will cancel the bill. I just have to get around to calling them and see if it actually works.

USPS won't charge you as I found out the other day. But I think it has to be an express package to avoid the brokerages at the border. For silicone couplers and clamps valued at $220cdn I was only charged $30 in customs fees.

UPS ground however charged me $85 for the greddy RS bov I ordered from the US. ITs declared value was $270 I think.

I think if you ship it express airborne delivery you will avoid those brokerage fees and will just have the standard customs fees.

First of all there is no such thing as CUSTOMS FEES, if u order stuff from the U.S. You should ONLY pay GST and PST. Customs only collect taxes for the government, they do not charge for any service. You can actually clear your own goods and not pay any brokerage charges, just gst and pst.
However, this involves: first goin to the shipping carrier (get the waybill) than to the customs office (pay taxes), than back to the shipping carrier. Anytime u order stuff from the states, the brokers do that for you, hence u get charged a broker fee.

btw, under valuing and or miss declaring the good, will only cause delay and or extra penalties....

I have now ordered auto parts 4 times from private individuals in the states. I always tell them to send USPS ground and aside from the 1 item which was sent insured I have yet to pay duties/brokerage/GST/PST. Of the 3 items 2 were valued at over $200US and one was valued $50US.

The 1 item I had to pay brokerage for, Canada Post charged me $5 for brokerage and GST/PST 15%
