Alero 442

Alero 442
On my way home from Home Depot and Canadian Tire, i was behind this green Alero. It had light gold racing stripes, and tons od badging.
I beleive it said W-42 or some . Then it had numerous 442 badges. Also had a hood scoop with 442 on it, among other things.
To my knowledge, there was no 'performance' Alero, let alone one with a 442! So, did the owner just plaster different badges on his car? or could you get stuff like this frmo the factory? and maybe the 442 was something else, instead of ci...
Am i crazy? or was the owner crazy?

442
It was probably just stickered up. The only 442 the was front drive was the olds calais 442 from 1990 - 1992 . It had a 2.3 quad with 190 hp, 160 ftlb limited slip 5 speed tranny. The 442 calais was also a little lighter too. So unless he did a swap it isnt a 442. I doubt the guy actually did the swap .

There was an Alero at a show I went to in Auburn Hills Michigan last year with a 400 small block in it. It was rwd converted, and ran 11,s. The paint was repro 70's 442, with similar paint to what you're describing, but he only had one or two 70's 442 emblems on it. Was it that nasty green and gold that the old 442's were available with, or was it a newer green?

I'm not sure what the old 442 greeen was like. Was it dark? light? nasty neon green?
There was atleast one 442 badge on the trunk, one on the doors, and maybe one on a little hood scoop.
In fron of the driver wheel, it also had one that said 'V6 HO'
on the third brakelight, when lit up, it said 'oldsmobile'
sure as hell didn't sound like it had a 400 small block in it. In fact, i don't think it sounded any different than stock.
Oh, and it had chrome rims

The one I saw did not have v6 stickers or a spoiler. And it was 1970 442 green and gold paint. NASTY!!! But holy did it go. Reproduction rally wheels. No chrome and the 442 emblems were originals.

Yeah that thing flew. Sweet sound too. Check out the 240z supercharged v8 vid on auto pics. That's what it sounded like. Gives you a rod just standing there. And I'm a vw fan. Only owned 1 v8, rwd cutlass, with pathetic 305.
