Everything has a cost attached. If you're low on $$$, pick up a bolt on every now and then (ie: the usual intake, exhaust, headers, etc) and most bolt ons are a great bang for buck approach. If you're really serious about an engine build and are willing to take the time and $$$ to put it all together, then I believe its best to build the motor bottom-up. But of course, this opens up a huge debate on TONS of issues.

Bottom Line: Unless u really know what you're doing, I suggest talking to a preformance shop mechanic.

It also depends on the use of the car. Is the car going to be:

Street
Street/Strip
Strip

Plus is depends on how fast you want to go!!

I don't know if you're going for prestige or what by looking at building an all-motor 5L, but I would recommend against that route and pick up a 1500 dollar supercharger, make 400-450 hp to the wheels and be done with it. Or an even cheaper route, nitrous. The money you would spend making that power all-motor really isn't worth it.

Plus I wouldn't even recommend a 347- personally I'd never go past 331 ci. Some people have good experiences with 347's, but I've also heard bad.

At the very least, if you're still going to buy a 347 stroker kit anyway, make sure the piston boss doesn't intersect the oil control ring. I don't think all stroker kits are made like that.

In terms of bolt-ons, for a 5L I'd say the most important mods are gears and exhaust. The stock exhaust is garbage, look at the stock headers after you get them replaced.. it's something that should be on a Honda. You'll have a nice power increase by replacing the whole exhaust system, and gears do wonders for those cars.

You can get into the 11's with 400 hp, depending on how you set up your car, you could probably go even faster. Your blown 347 will be making about 650 hp, you'll be way past 11's

hahahah a fox body with gears nice clutch i/h/e and a nice 150 will yield a nice 11 's ...stock internals

nicely prepped block and head with a 200 shot and slick should give you consistent mid to low 11's so have fun

There was a NOS kit on this site for sale for a 5.0L, but the guy was way out to lunch on his price as it didn't have the plate for the throttle body.
I have heard the same. I heard a story about putting on 86 Heads on to a 90's 5.0 and a 300 shot. The motor lasted quite a while.

(I may not be correct about the year of heads) I think you get what I mean though.

I think all u gusy r forgetting that the Production 5L block hits its limit in the 550rwhp range....the block WILL crack right down the middle if u r making such insane #'s out of that block...

now if u can find a 302 Boss block or a Ford Racing block thats different...

even a girdle wont help that much, but will somewhat....

BTW a 302 punched and stroked out to a 347 supposedly after normal wear and tear really tend to overheat, as the cylinder walls get worn and there already pretty thin considering the bore size and piston to wall clearance....
