Mustang Firing Orders (5.0, 4.6, 3.8, 2.3)
The firing order is essential to know once you have removed spark plugs to change them, work on the internals, or even perform an engine swap. The most frustrating situation is when you cannot get your hours of work to fire up, and the most common reasons include poor battery terminal connections, falty starter, and a wrong firing order with the spark plug wires. An easy method to maintain correct firing order when just changing pllugs/wires is to remove and change just one plug/wire at a time. For your convenience, included in this article is an image diagram showing the firing orders for the popular 5.0L, 4.6L, 3.8L, and 2.3L engines.
PS. The early 351W’s firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, while the smaller Windsor engine’s firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
