Looking at buying a Ford Probe
Hey guys after a lot of thinking and a lot of looking around at cars, I think im going to buy a probe. I have chose this because I know there fairly reliable cars and are half decently fast. What you guys think of these cars, Thanks a lot

I love it.. Its not too bad on gas, quick enough to be fun, and the ****ing thing handles like a champ (especially with those nexens I just put on). What year are you looking at getting? If its in your budget, get a GT because the SE's are ****ing dogs.
Ask the seller about the disty.. its a common problem on these cars, I just replaced mine about 3 months ago.
Mine's god ~150,000 on it and it still runs like a dream.
Good Luck!

got a 97 mx6 (same as a probe) with the v6 in it. car runs like a dream, its got decent pep (2.5L 6cyl with 174hp in a semi light car), and its the most reliable car my family has ever owned, no major repairs and hasnt broke down once since the 5 years we have owned it.
bump for the probe/mx6

you may want to do some more research on the probe - especially the newer GT's. you're bound to hear about people owning these cars who love them and have never had any major problems...but I believe the probe - especially the GT - has had it's share of reliability problems

Yeah, it does have problems. Like i said before, the distributor is a HUGE problem among the KLZE series motor. It just goes out of nowhere and a new one is expensive. Another common problem is the cam seals leak, however they are easy to replace if you have any sort of mechanical knowledge.

Yea man i got a probe 2...it runs real well espically wit all the work...just make sure u look it over in detail cuz thats what kinda screwed me over cuz i got a good deal as i thought but i had to put alot of work into it...make sure u get a gt because everything is better the SE's look like *** and move like *** so yea thats my 2 cents

I have a probe...lots of problems but its a great car. if you already own a precidia, you should stick with it and put a probe engine in. if you have $1000 lying around, get yourself a KLZE (japanese MX6 engine). its a 2.5L v6 like the US probe and MX6 except its tuned better to give 200hp.
good luck

My opinion is stay away from the V6's. I used to own a 93 MX-6. I did actually love that car, made decent power(intake, complete exaust, and a superchip), was really comfortable, and sounded sweet as hell(borla cat-back), but its really hard to get power out of them. If your after performance, the older 2.2L turbos will be the better platform to build from.
I ran into a couple of turbo MX-6s this summer that moved pretty well, much faster than the v6 would've been. Stopped and talked to them for a bit at Kennedy Commons. They were nicely set-up and looked pretty good too.

I really like the 2.5V6 enginge very reliable and like others have said good pep. However for a simple upgrade and shop around cause you can find them pretty cheap. A KLZE 2.5 jap spec puts out a claimed 200hp and from what I've seen has never failed any e-tests. Correct me i f im wrong.. Even if guys have upgraded from 4cyl they are running them through e-test with no problems, and they're not putting the through as hot-rod status.

Haven't seen too much go wrong with them, apparently though they get carbon built up in the cylinders easily if they get driven easy, not that anyone here would go easy on their car............
