BBK SSI Intake Fuel Leak Problems.
Well, as some of you know i went with the BBK SSI intake for my 93 mustang. Its a very unique intake and really matches my vehicle color scheme well.
When i first got it and took it the car to MPW to have it all put together, Mike had mentioned how these intakes fuel rails leaked. He had faith that there had been a revision and that there shouldn't be a problem. ......
One of my friends had mentioned my car smelled like fuel when it left MPW.
Aprox 1.5 months later my ride went into Nicks for some more goodies (blower etc) Nicks been hard at work making the car look kick ***.
Now though, my intake is now off. Why? Fuel leak from the fuel rail press fittings. The exact issue MPW warned me about
This is sooo dangerous and if a another shop has already experienced this problem, and now i have the problem, others are surely having issues. This is so dangerous and could burn your car down.
Ive contacted BBK today with a thorough email expressing my deep concern in regards to the safety of their product. (customerservice [at] bbkperformance.com ). I hope to hear back from them early Monday with them telling me they can overnight some new fuel rails to me!
Anyhow, heres some quick pics so you know where to look when you hear what you think is a fuel injector leak :icon16:

is there nothing that can be used??? teflon tape, putty/paste etc? or is it a fitting that can't be sealed like that?
either way.. thats not cool... that it leaks... cause that stuff isn't cheap... you expect more from a company like BBK...
good luck with it all..!

I know that when these came out there was a lot of skeptical people, BBK isnt exactly the first name that comes to mind when I think of quality pony parts. I think that they should come good with this or if it ever caused an accident or car caught on fire, that could be a class action lawsuit... so they best improve and come good for it.

Well, i called BBK Performance this morning (951-296-1771) and spoke to Doug.
Doug was pretty nice, listened to my story and had put in question shop install error. Now i had told him 2 shops had worked on the car, problem still exists and the first shop warned me of the issue. Again, he questioned the install. Doug was friendly, not rude and in all fairness, he wasn't there when it was installed.
Doug stated that they may need the parts back, im not sure what that means. Complete intake or just the fuel rails, he didn't say. He said he needed to look over the proof of purchase and my other email.
I of course mentioned that i was reading on the net how there are some issues with this intake. Doug let me know he does not surf online forums and is not familiar with any including stangnet (i find that hard to believe Doug..you're prolly reading this now )
So, now we shall see what happens. I hope they go the distance to resolve this. Ive sent them documented pictures and everything they need.

Hey there, i imagine this is Doug. You guys are quick
Just an update to the community, i had spoken with Doug and it seems things are going to be handled. O-rings are being shipped out and should be at Nicks Automotive (hopefully by tomorrow) so i can get this thing off the hoist.
From where we are at now, issue with the intake is "installer error". Thats with me having all the facts. Be it the first shop didn't read the instructions or didn't do it right, i don't know.
Point is, at this stage its shop error. Car didn't burn or catch on fire, so its not the end of the world.
Anyhow, thumbs up for BBK. So far the customer service has been A+, you cant go wrong. Besides, the intake is sexy
I will keep everyone updated on this until the car leaves the shop :nice:

This was written for stangnet:
Many have pm'd in regards to this and have asked for me to follow up....
Well, I've spoken to Bryan at BBK and again to Nick. This is where the intake leak issues currently stand..... Customer service is still a+, BBK is working with Nicks towards a solution.... now...
With the BBK SSI fuel rail o-rings installed (supplied by Bryan), the fuel rails leak. With the rails being shimmed and un-shimmed and messed around with, fuel rails leak; as per Nick.
Nick resolved the situation by putting 2 o-rings per side. It now does not currently leak but as Nick expressed, hes not sure if he would trust it.
Bryan has been helpful and given some ideas which I've forwarded off to Nick and those two have corresponded via email previously on April 3 2007.
Another solution by BBK is Nick pulls the intake off again and measures all the fuel rail spacing as well as the cross over, we ship it back to bbk if theres an issue and they get us out a new cross over pipe and new o-rings. I've left this up to nick to decide to do, i really don't want to keep paying to have an upper pulled off and put back on, but i definitely don't want fuel leaking.
My feeling is Nick will do this because he doesn't want to have this playing on his mind.
Other solution is fab up the cross over if its short, make it longer and again, press fit it tight. Though Bryan feels that if it is a time issue, this may be the best way. Again, the fabrication work doesn't scare me, its the o-rings. Though it the car was on a deadline to leave one shop and head to the next, i am willing to sacrifice the deadlines for safety and a job done right.
So what to do ?
I did order a BBK-1706 Fuel Pressure Regulator and BBK-1617 Fuel Pressure Gauge Liquid filled.
Bryan, can a solution be made up if i use these pieces on different rails that BBK carries ? I know you had mentioned on the phone that the current rails wouldn't work because of the regulator thats on them.. (something along those lines, please correct me if i'm wrong..)
Where i stand is, i rather get the car to a condition where i feel it is safe to drive. So, that would entail swapping out rails, that is what i want or someone has to guarantee that its not going to leak (and i know Nick wont guarantee it, cause i asked..lol..)
So let me know Bryan, if there is a solution i can work on with the parts i have, then i'm all for it. I will swap you out rails, you can have these back You can over night me a set, send me the invoice and i will pay for shipping and i will ship you back these rails i have.
I just want this done 100% correct, no cutting or mocking up, no farting around. Done once.
